Information about the breed

 

Everyone who visited already a cat exhibition hit on this gentle giant with the wild look. And the question which comes to most lips at first: Wow, how much do they weighed?, is answered with patience by each breeder.

Yes, the Maine Coon belongs to the largest domestic cat that are. The gentlemen can weigh between 8 and 10 kg, the ladies hold back themselves a little with 5-7 kg. But the rest they have in common: these awesome ears with tips such as lynx, a bushy, sometimes very long tail which is carried around very proudly, and a square muzzle, which always asks for cuddle.

Beside this fascinating look the Maine Coon bewitches particulary with one thing: its wonderful character. The Maine Coon doesn’t know that it has claws, except if it has a climbing tree to defeat. It participates everywhere, examines each new bag and must know everything. This cat screams if it discovers something that no one else has possibly seen until you come and look for. It’s a clown but also loves to cuddle. During its 5 “crazy” minutes, no loose little thread is safe and it plays and squabbles with all it is worth. And all this to better take a lap on the human knees or in the crook of the arm afterwards. Do not try to convince it that now there is no time for cuddle, it would not be accepted anyway.

 The Maine Coon is a very sociable cat that needs also his same kind beside him in addition to its human family. To keep it as only cat will do it no good. And the second kitty doesn’t mean to be a Maine Coon. A rescued one from the sanctuary would also be pleased about such a great play mate.

 The coat of this natural breed is very easy to clean. However one should comb and brush it once a week to facilitate the work of our purring friend and avoid fur balls.
